Got the rear tyres for the Porsche fitted (Ouch).

Also decided to get a removable and smaller steering wheel for the Westfield, so fitted that too:

Wednesday 22 August 2012

Porsche 996 went in for an MOT and needs 2 rear tyres soon! Bugger!!!

Been out in the Westfield a few times and been flawless....

Friday 8 June 2012

Got round to sorting out the alternator wiring today, here is where the wire had burnt through:

So, removed the bodge I had put in place and then put a new eye connector in place, as well as use heat shrink to tidy it up, then put some heat proof sleeving around it before putting the heat shield back in place.  Car starts up fine always now!

Some Track Day footage from 4 Jun 12:

Was only the second time round the track. after bodging the alternator wiring so not the best lines in the world....and that M3 CSL is bloody quick!!

GOODWOOD track day 4 Jun 12.

Finally got round to getting the Wetsie on track and had a good day, although GOODWOOD is a very fast track so some of the real big power stuff (Audi RS6 / M3 CSL) went past me on the straights easily as the Westie tops out about 120mph and it was my first time on the track.

Second session did not go so well however as the car decided to cut out in the pits, a quick battery booster pack and it was off on the session, however the power all then went and I had to be towed off the track!  Once back in the paddocks had a good look and saw the main wire from the alternator to the battery had become brittle and snapped due to the heat of the manifold.  A quick repair and it was off on another session which was so much better! The car went better than before and had a great time!  Oh the shift light was very good....

So, have ordered some heat shielding for the wires and will re-do that once the parts arrive.

Here is  a pic that someone took of the car in the paddocks:

Shifi-I light fitted

Managed to get some time so fitted the Shift-I light.

First job was to remove the dashboard top:

Then remove the tachometer to splice into the wires:

Next was to fit the light and then put everything back together:

Very pleased with the result and works really well!

Tuesday 1 May 2012

Bit the bullet and ordered a Shift-I the other day and it arrived today:

So all going well will fit it this weekend!

Sunday 29 April 2012

Weather again!

Only been out a few times this month as been away with work......was going to go to Goodwood this weekend but weather stopped that!

Thinking of going for the shift-i light at the moment, as even though the Westie has a shift light it is a single one (and I think the sequential lights look good!)

Monday 9 April 2012

Weather!

Was hoping to take the Westfield out over the bank holiday weekend but the bad weather put paid to that!!!

Thinking of covering the rear bulkhead panel with DiNoc or paint to smarten it up a little, we shall see.

Sunday 1 April 2012

Goodwood breakfast club

Decided to take the wife out in the car early today after she said she wanted a go........she did not like it, said I was going too fast etc, well I wasn't but there you go!

Anyway after dropping her home went to Goodwood Breakfast Club for a mooch about, as usual the car park was the best part, a few pics:

A Westfield XTR2:

And the best car there today (in my opinion!) and no, not the Moggy or the Civic!:

Trackcam app problem

Went out today and set up the TRACKCAM app before I left Goodwood on the way back to record.  When I got back noticed that someone had called my iphone 4 and that had stopped the app recording.....something to bear in mind for the future.

On a positive, the car is still awesome and good fun to drive!

Saturday 10 March 2012

Out for another blat today!

As the weather was lovely went out again for a bit to Goodwood, as only about 15 miles away.  Was a historic motor racing event on with some lovely old cars there.  Not much else to say really except will be away with work for a few weeks so Westie is now put away and covered in the garage until I return!

Saturday 3 March 2012

Rear arch protectors fitted

The rear arch protectors I ordered from PLAYSKOOL arrived and I had a trial fit:

They sat a bit far out from the tub and after some research it looks like there may be two different types of rear arch that are detachable.  The way to fit them then  is to apply some gentle heat with a heat gun (paint stripper in my case) and mould the arch protectors in place against the tub.

Overall very pleased with the result and now waiting for some better weather to go out again!

Sunday 26 February 2012

Had a few good run outs in the car this weekend!

As the weather has been good it was foolish not to make the most of it and take the Westie out for a bit.  Managed to get out Sat and Sun for a few hours and am getting more and more used to the car now, but still VERY impressed with it!

Only thing I have noticed is that the rear arches have been stone chipped a bit this weekend so will now be looking for some carbon effect rear arch protectors.

Still debating about changing the dashboard to a digital dash, something like a DASH2 or even STACK set up but we will see.

Cycle wing fixed!

Got the wing bracket back and refitted it to the car, so all now back together again.

Hoping to take it out tomorrow....

Thursday 16 February 2012

Fixing cycle wing.

Managed to get some time tonight to look at the cycle wing.  Jacked the car up, took the wheel off and then removed the wing itself (as it had bolts fixed to the underside).  That meant I could remove the bracket without having to undo the top ball joint etc:

Once off I had a go at welding it myself, but had no joy, so have given it to a friend of mine (who can weld well as he is a mechanic) to sort out tomorrow.  Once done will repaint and re-assemble.

Sunday 12 February 2012

Went out today with the TrackCam app.

As the weather was OK decided to go out with the TrackCam App to give it a try.  Was a bit wary of the road conditions mind but seems a good app, mind you need to make the mounting arrangement a little more secure I reckon.

Did notice on the drive that the OS cycle wing bracket has a crack so will need to fix that in the not too distant future.

Sunday 5 February 2012

Bad weather!

Well, due to the weather not had a chance to give it  trial run yet, but I will as soon as I can (next weekend all going well!)

Friday 3 February 2012

Iphone to car.....

Well, had a bit of time spare so played about in the garage.  I removed the belt clip from the retaining clip and then used cable ties to attach it to the roll bar:

Used an old retaining strap I had laying about to secure it even more.

Only issue I can see already is the fact that I can not charge the phone while using the camera app.

Hoping to give it a trial run in the next day or so!!

Wednesday 1 February 2012

Mounting the iphone?

Well, the griffin survivor case I ordered has arrived, just need to find a way to mount it to the rollbar and keep it steady now, as want a case thgat will protect the phone as well as let me use it with the trackcam app.

So, that will be this weekends task (hopefully!!)

Sunday 29 January 2012

Trackcam app

Heard about an app for the iphone 4 called trackcam, so got it and gave it a try (as was thinking of getting a better track day camera but for £2.49 you can not really go wrong).  Gave it a trial run in the Jag and it looks pretty good for the money:

Wednesday 25 January 2012

DINOCing

Well, had the time so tried to put some DINOC on the rear wheel arches:

Was not very happy with my attempt so ripped it off and decided to DINOC the centre tunnel parts instead:

Am pleased with the result:

Sill covers on.

Well, thought I would add some CF sill covers for 2 reasons really:
1.  They will help protect the sills from scratches and chips as I get in and out.
2.  More importantly, I think they look really good!

Anyway, just used some velcro tape, as that way I can remove them easily if I do not get on with them.

Anyway, a few pics:

Before:

After:

Am thinking of putting some CF DINOC on the rear arches to protect them a bit too, so may well get on with that this afternoon if I feel like it.

Sunday 22 January 2012

Current Cars

Well, apart from the daily driver (Jag XF) we have 2 'toys' in the garage, and they are very different:

Porsche 911 (996) with GT3 kit, LSD, Sports exhaust, sports interior etc etc
This is a very easy and nice car to drive, as the wife likes using it too!!

Westfield SEIW, with a 184bhp DOHC VX engine, running on Jenvey throttle bodies and all the other bells and whistles you need!  I was looking for a while at what to get to replace the R1 MK INDY (which I sold last March), thought about all sorts of options, such as a supercharged VX220 but decided on the Westfield as I remember the fun I had in the R1 MK INDY on tracks.  The Westfield is FAR superior in every way to the MK INDY, as the previous owner was very fastidious and made an excellent job of the car.  Anyway, a few pictures:

Been out in it a few times and am VERY impressed with the speed and the way it handles.  had to lower the driver's seat a few inches and I fit in it so much better now.  Was thinking of raising the steering wheel too but I do not think it needs it, but we will see.

Went out for a bit today:

Still not fully used to it yet but getting more and more confident now!  May need to look at a new camera mind as this was taken with an old Oregon Scientific action cam.

Been thinking of a few things to do to improve the car slightly (in my opinion):
1.  DINOC the tunnel top and side panels, and maybe even the rear bulkhead?
2.  Maybe change the shift light from the single light, to a sequential version, as in this link SHIFT LIGHT.

Anyway, that is all for now and will update as I progress with it.
